I really loved (even though there were many rejects and hours of trial and error) playing with the picture beads and fusing them together under extreme heat and creating all of that handmade mug-holding, table-saving crafty goodness with last week’s Create 28 entry – Picture Bead Coasters. So, I wanted to play around a little more and explore the possibilities of decorative art or wall hangings. I wanted to create something less practical or useful but something that I would hang in my own home or craft studio.
In last week’s picture bead coasters, one of the things that stood out to me in my trial and error stages were that if I removed the heat earlier than normal, the beads would still fuse together but also still keep their form and holes.
When held up to the light they showed a lace-like holey quality and a gorgeous pattern emerged on the other side in shadow.
This made me very excited to try out the idea of a wall hanging as the light could shine through and the beautiful shadow would always be there (which to be honest is a lot more practical than attaching my coasters to the wall!)
No. 11 – Love is in the air…or at least hanging in your home! This picture bead heart wall hanging is sure to add a huge pop of colour and fun into any space, whether at home or at a party, with is gorgeous love-heart red and its crisp white tones.
Each heart is made up of picture and Hama beads to create a simple yet eye-catching design. Starting at the top, the smallest heart is handmade and built up with love and approx. 77 beads fused together in alternating colours…
…the medium sized heart is crafted together using approx. 219 picture beads…
…and then the largest heart at the bottom of the wall hanging is hand created using approx. 340.
Each of the red and white beaded hearts were held under the right amount of heat and pressure to carefully fuse the beads together and form the lovely shapes and patterns.
The three beaded hearts are hand-sewn onto red and white bakers twine and have a strong hold. A loop is tied onto the top for ease of hanging and there is a 6cm and 7cm cord of twine between each heart respectively.
This heart will hang at approx. 44.5cm long and approx. 16cm wide at its widest point (at the larger bottom heart) and has the same pattern on each side.
I wanted No.12 to be slightly different to the hearts and wanted a bit of consistency in the Eliston Button Etsy Shop, that and with my slight bunting obsession, a picture bead bunting garland idea got me excited to get started! I love how the picture beads seem like the perfect match for bunting, with shape and vibrancy and the beautiful shadow forms they create.
This picture bead bunting garland is sure to add a huge pop of colour and fun into any space, whether at home or at a party, with is gorgeous sunshine yellow and its sharp zesty orange tones.
Each bunting triangle is made up of 154 hand-picked picture and Hama beads to create a simple yet eye-catching design. Three citrus orange bunting pennant shapes lovingly hang between two sunshine yellow ones. These form a lovely five pennant bunting garland strung together on a contrasting monochrome black and white bakers twine string that really adds to the confident and bold design.
Each of the coloured bunting pennants have a single line of crisp white picture beads running around the inside of the outer coloured edge making the overall design really pop out.
The five bunting pennants are hand-sewn onto the bakers twine and have a strong hold. A loop is tied on to each end for ease of hanging and the beaded bunting pennants are secure in their places, but are easily pushed along the string to form a smaller garland or to spread them out a little bit more for a larger one if required!
This picture bead bunting garland is approx. 71cm long when pulled taught from loop to loop and has the same pattern on each side.
For both of the wall hangings, the fused beads together form a wonderful texture that is extremely tactile. The holes of the beads have not been closed up during the fusing process deliberately to give the overall wall hanging a lace-like quality so when hung they let the light shine through them beautifully.
The beauty of the fused picture and Hama beads is that they can be easily wiped clean if needed. Ironing causes irregularities in the way the beads fuse together, the bunting garland and the heart wall hanging pictured are the ones you will receive.
You don’t need a special event or occasion to brighten up a room, a mantelpiece, a wall or even a door frame with these picture bead wall hangings. You need just a cup of happy thoughts, a pinch of excitement and a dollop of play which will allow your bunting garland to create a burst of fun to any area of your home or party!
