Hello there Buttoneers! I so excited to share with you numbers 7 & 8 in my Create 28 craft blog challenge…Woven Wall Hangings! If you are a newbie Buttoneer you can catch up on my Create 28 challenge in its category here. As most of you know by now, I am a little obsessed with weaving, especially weaving on my wooden peg loom. You can find examples here and here and not forgetting my Peg Loom Weaving Tutorial Part One and Part Two. So, naturally, I wanted

I wanted the woven wall hangings to be one of the first items in my list of crafty goodness, but time was not on my side!

If any of you have woven on a peg loom before will know how time consuming the whole process is – especially the threading up of those long warp threads through the wooden pegs with tiny holes! Yikes!

Now I finally, after a lot of practise I feel like I am thoroughly proud of my weaving and therefore am super excited to be able to share them with you. I have certainly put a lot of thought (and a whole heap of trial and error) into how to hang and finish them off, which meant a lot of playing around with pine wood dowels and wooden beads of different colours and sizes. Phew!

So, without further ado, here is number 7 in my Create 28 blog challenge…a pretty pink and dusky grey wool/yarn peg loom woven wall hanging… Continue reading

I hope you got on okay with the start of basic weaving on a peg loom and in today’s half of the tutorial, I will show you how I tie off, add the dowel to create a wall hanging from the weaving and sewing in the loose side bits!

As I mentioned last week, I am certainly not an expert in Weaving but am passionate about it and wanted to share the basics so that you could join me in the crafty goodness!

So, without further ado, enjoy!

Hello there Buttoneers! If you caught last weeks ‘Workspace Wednesday – Weave It To Me’ post you will know that I have become a little obsessed with weaving, especially weaving on my wooden peg loom. If you don’t own a peg loom, I highly recommend buying one as I have had hours of fun weaving away on this one and the simple design makes it super easy to do. That said, I struggled to pick it up right away so whilst weaving one evening in from of the telly, I thought about whether I could make a tutorial, the sort of tutorial that I could have used when I first started out.

So, here it is…well part one anyway. Who knew there were so many steps in making a weaving? I assure you though; they are super simple when broken down into small non-scary bite-size chunks. Part Two will arrive in next week’s Tutorial Tuesday. I wanted to split them so that you could practice the basics and get going on the main body of the weave before getting tied up (literally) with the tying off, weaving in loose ends and adding the hanging dowel.

If you are a super speedy learner then bookmark this post and run through them both together. I don’t in any way claim to be an expert weaver, but I am passionate about it and that’s the main thing…right!?  Enjoy!

Workspace Wednesday – Weave It To Me…

Workspace Wednesday at www.elistonbutton.com - Eliston Button - That Crafty Kid

Weave it to me (see what I did there!?) to buy a wooden peg loom when I left college and then totally forget about it.

Weave it to me (I am still loving the pun!) to only remember it until I came up against the letter ‘L’ in Photo-a-Day October 2014 that I had made in to my Eliston Button A to Z of Crafts (#elistonbuttonatozofcrafts) project on Instagram.

Weave it to me (okay…okay…I’ll stop now!) to have to re-learn it for my photo and then fall madly in love with weaving again.

Seriously, everything WILL be woven!!

This is the original photo from the project. I was half way through and was using small balls of left over wool and playing around with stripes and blocks of colour. I absolutely love the purple flecked wool and the burnt orange chunky wool…

I also love how (unintentionally) the deep red wool against the fluffy white wool looks like father Christmas’ trouser leg…bring on the Christmas weaving inspiration!
